Inspired by C. Wright Mills’ ‘sociological imagination’, I strive to fulfill the promise of sociology by demonstrating how larger social forces shape to our private lives. My current study focuses on the problem of suicide among military veterans returning from combat.
To address the question of why people are driven to commit suicide, I consider the social forces contributing to this intimate act. I reformulate classic sociological theories on suicide by engaging in interviews with recent Canadian veterans of Afghanistan.
Drawing on research in psychology, philosophy, and health studies, I am committed to conveying the practical relevance of sociological theory to a multidisciplinary audience. Hopefully this blog will contribute to my goal.
